ORIENTATION POLICY VIDEO

University of Waterloo
___________

While working as a Graphic Design and Video Assistant at the University of Waterloo’s Student Success Office, I was approached to create an animated motion graphics video detailing the policies for the University’s Orientation that would be shown to 6,500+ students at the start of the event and reused in future years orientation events.

Illustrating every asset myself, I also used this project as an opportunity to learn Adobe Character Animator for the first time by drawing and rigging my own character.

The video received overwhelmingly positive feedback from all teams and individuals involved in the proofing process – the Student Success Offices’ head of Marketing and Communications stated that this may have been the first video they had worked on where no edits were required.

This project was also a fantastic opportunity for me to practice time management and backwards planning, as there were a lot of tasks to complete and proofs to be approved at various stages.

Using notion to create a roadmap, I set tentative personal deadlines for each task and created checklists to be able to visually assess my progress. This was extremely helpful in keeping me on track and hitting deadlines.

From start to finish, this project provided various learning opportunities in both software and time management, and was a chance for me to take on a leadership role in planning and design while showcasing my skills.
